Lower Selway River Outing

       Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests – O3AHara Campground (usda.gov) 

Date: June 11-16 Tuesday- Sunday

Check in upon arrival and leave at your leisure. 

Directions: take Hwy 12 east out of Lewiston through Kooskia ( last chance for gas FILL UP) staying on Hwy 12. You will come to the unincorporated tiny town of Lowell where you turn right onto the Selway road. Continue on this forestry road until you come to the Ohara creek road. Turn left Cross the bridge. O’Hara campground is on your left. 

The lower area of the Selway is the slower gentle area before it merges with the Lochsa to create the Clearwater River. Our trip will be concentrating on the wading areas along the Lower Selway but the lower river has some slower areas that may be OK for floating depending on the flow.

Camping We will be camping @ O’Hara campground which takes online reservations through Reserve America. The campground is filling up. Members are not expected to stay for full week. Everyone is encouraged to do what works for them. I expect some may come during week and some for weekend portion

We will be fishing for Rainbows, Cutthroats, Browns and there are also Bull Trout which cannot be targeted. The forest road parallels the river and access can be difficult to easy. You can follow the horse trail from roads end. Reported the trout are easier to catch up there and find more fish 

Flies: Parachute Adams size 16-18, Purple Haze size 16-18, Elk hair Caddis size 12-14. Red ants, and Hoppers Deer or Elk hair preferred. Bring an assortment-every year varies.
