Intro to Spey Casting for Beginners with Thatcher Beaty

Limited to FOUR Students!

Saturday, Sept. 19th from 10 – 12pm

Location: Meet at the west end of W Water Avenue in Peaceful Valley, downstream from Redband Park.

Equipment: Rods will be provided. Bring your own two-handed rod and line if you have one. Bring your
waders and boots for slippery rocks.

By the end of this two hour session the students should be able to make basic, fishable Spey casts from
either bank of the river, with an upstream or downstream wind.
The following topics will be covered:
• A brief history of Spey casting
• Explaining the differences between Skagit and Scandi systems
• How to rig and set up a Skagit shooting head system and sink tips
• Learning the uses and basics of the double Spey and snap casts
• Spey casting with single handed and two handed rods
• Review of safety issues and common casting faults
• Drills to improve your casting skills
